The design of the Carbonara is based around eliminating all “moving parts”, and therefore, friction and maintenance. The monocoque carbon fiber structure delivers incredible strength, and the test-fork we have in our lab has already been “shocked” over 170 thousand times, without showing any signs of wear and tear. That equals more mountain-biking than you’ll manage to cram into at least 5 years of action!
The springs on the Lauf Carbonara are made of military spec S2 glassfiber that is extremely tough on hits and flexible in the direction of the travel. The springs have been “shocked” in our test lab over 400.000 times reaching 40mm amplitude every time.
The Lauf Carbonara has 60mm of travel with progressive spring rate. This means that the further the fork compresses the springs become stiffer. This helps keeping the fork from bottoming without sacrificing small bump compliance.
The Carbonara fits fat bike tires and plus size tires. Fat ones for floating on the snow or plus size for smashing the summer trails.
The Carbonara works flawlessly in all weather conditions. Whether you find yourself in the freezing Antarctica or the scorching Sahara - it also loves salt and sand. No stiction, no worries. Grab your rig and just ride!
We do not have cargo mounts on our forks but there are 3rd party solutions that can be used. For instance the Twofish Unlimited Quick Cage adapters that can be used with a broad variety of cages.
26" / 27.5" / 29"
The Carbonara likes fat tires (and bacon) and riding through winter. During summer it comes in handy to throw under 29+ wheels for a quick XC spin.
26x4.8" / 27.5x4.5" / 29x3"
Go for fat and wide tires for flotation or “skinny” 29” for trail hunting. The Carbonara likes them all.
60mm
This is the sweet spot for our forks. Since the travel is fairly short and progressive, we don’t need damping. That makes the fork a lot simpler and maintenance free.
1.100 g / 2.43 lbs
The Carbonara is very light - especially when compared to other fatbike forks. Be prepared to make your fatbike come to life.
260g
The low unsprung weight is one of the design elements that makes this fork extremely good at tracking small bumps and chatter which gives you great traction and isolates you from vibration.
Regular (over 80 kg / 176 lbs riders) or Light (under 85 kg / 187 lbs riders)
This should be used as a reference. If you’re an aggressive rider it’s likely that you’d prefer the “Regular” stiffness, even though you weigh less than 80kg. You won’t lose any of the small bump compliance.
15mm Lauf Thru-Axle
We supply all forks with our own axles. We made a lightweight low profile axle which requires a 6mm allen key. If you prefer a lever, you can replace it with e.g. the RockShox Maxle
150mm
Full fatbike spacing of 150mm. However if you have a 135mm or 142mm front hub there are spacer kits to reach the 150mm width. These are provided by the hub manufacturer. You might need to re-dish your wheel.
51mm
Rake is the distance measured from center of the steerer tube to the center of the axle - measured perpendicular to the steerer.
495
It’s designed to replace a 100mm XC fork. When you take sag into account on a normal telescopic fork, the axle to crown length is roughly the same.
Tapered 1 1/8" - 1 1/2"
The Carbonara has an integrated crown race with 45° angle. It’s also possible to fit our forks on bikes that have an oversized headtube (44mm). Then the lower bearing needs to be changed to a 1.5”. 250mm uncut length.
180mm
180mm is minimum but if you prefer a larger rotor a spacer can be used.
130 kg / 287 lbs
This is your weight in riding gear.
